PS Cafe Petite

Tiong Bahru is the latest new happening estate for food, happened to chance upon this new outlet. The facade had attracted me to check out the place. PS Cafe Petite is an outlet that served only takeaway pizza and wine, despite it is a takeaway outlet, interior isn't compromised at all. Manhatten interior design with some bar seats. 2 tables to accomodate some customer who perfer to dine in. There are varies selection of wines that you could choose from the shelves. They even provide recommendation on the wine to match your pizza. Services was excellent that servers provide really full attention on you ask how are you doing constantly. We ordered a bottle of red wine to pair with our pizza, Winter Salami Pizza. Wine was excellent, provided half body taste , smooth wine. Unfortunately, the Winter Salami Pizza was a bit too oily for me, the oild slimply dripped the moment I held a slice a pizza. Service: 80/100 Price: 50/100 Food: 50/100Address: Seng Poh Road

There are many food outlets along Balestier Road, few famous outlets include Bak Ku Teh, Chicken Rice and also the fish head steamboat eatery I went toady. You will find yourself greeded by walls of pictures of outlet's boss took with celebrityies.

We ordered their signature steamboat, Red Garoupa Steamboat at $50 for 5 paxs, pretty reasonable price, with chuck of red garoupa meat and veggie. Prawn fritter is another traditional hokkien dish, I am not a mince meat lover, so this does not appeal to me at all.

Overall, give a chance to pop into the restaurant if you are balestier.

Fourty Hands

Recently, more hip & trending shops sprucing up at this pre war housing estate area - Tiong Bahru, thus, injected vibes and vibrant to this once old and boring estate .

There is an artisan cafe well known for the brew, nestled at the area. Opened by Aussie , serves limited breakfast menu . My first time to the cafe surprised me by the overly-crowded yuppies sitting inside the cafe. As usual, I had my Latte , which gave strong aroma of coffee. Egg benedict served on traditional metal plate was a surprise too, the taste met my expectation.

I would highly recommend Salmon Hash and Gula Melaka Swiss Roll. Salmon hash was tasty and flavourful, salmon without fishy smelt and not over cooked. Gula Melaka Swiss Roll is rather unusual that I could only find it here, the sponge is soft, not too sweet , and rolled with shredded coconut.

If you are this area, pop into this cafe .

Another Hokkaido Japanese Ramen hid at emtreme undiscoverd level 2 at The Central. This restaurant was introduced by my friend Xuan, otherwise, I would not find it. A must try is the Ramen with flavourful soup, noodle is springy, best combination with the half boiled egg.

One Caramel

One Caramel is another new cafe that specialise in dessert and cakes , it hides beside The Cathay (tends to miss it) , with just few tables . All cakes are freshly made by their pastry chef. My sweet tooth experience at One Caramel ;

Lychee Rose Cake
Lychee mouse layer with rose sponge cake, a perfect concoction that gives strong aroma of both flavours.

Strawberry Short Cake
This reminds me the strawberry short cakes that I had ate during my trip in Japan few years back, layers of crush with fresh strawberries and mouse.

Red Valvet Cake
Maybe my taste bud doesnt like it, the sweetness too overpowering that my tooth ache .

Fribika

This is another latest drinking place at the mid of a building , seated at the mid building of The Klapton boutique hotel. For opening promotion, they are extend 1 for 1 offer between 5 to 9 pm , a glass of champage is around $18 , will recommend to go with friend to share the drinks.

Another merit point about the place is the view, although it didnt provide city view but overlooks Keppel port , especially dazzling at night.

Shin Kushiya

My first visit to Shin Kushiya @ Vivo City, it was rather pack , perhaps due to mother day. They provide 2 different set of menus - savory menu & dessert and drinks menu.
All the food featured on the menus looked appetising , but we only have one stomach with restriction of intake, if not, I would have ordered all.
'Buta Don - Pork with rice bowl , the pork seasoned with special sweet sauce, & the pork taste wonder. The pork tasted especially extra-ordinary . is extremely tender and soft .
Tako Fry - Crispy with chuck of tako
BlackPepper Maguro Sarada - Seasoning is refreshing with a hint of sourness that perks your appetite, the maguro was perfectly grilled.

In Shanghai, there is a street famous for little lobster, we were very fortunate that our friend who stayed in Shanghai for more than 6 months bought us here. The entire street sell baby lobsters , despite so many shops selling baby lobsters, Ivan strongly recommended Hao Ji , reasons being , it had been featured by local TV , celebrities had patronized the stall, the best among all in term of cleanliness.
Lets talk about the food, we had baby lobsters, scallops, BBQ oysters, shrimps ( HK name it as urinated prawn) etc. Ivan told us that the season for baby lobster is summer, the baby lobster not so meaty during winter, still, the baby lobster taste sweet (maybe it’s the original taste ).

Baby Lobster

Salty Urinated Prawn
need to know the skill to peel the shell . The texture of the prawn taste similar as crab.

a kind of clam which I really dun know the exact name, find it a bit slurpy and oily.

Xiao Yang fried dumpling is one of the shanghai local delicacies that I missed the most, which is also rather well-know in Shanghai community, that several food and travel programmes featured Xiao Yang. Please be prepared to queue .

The skin of the dumpling is deep fried till it turned golden brown, ,thus, made it crispy, be cautious if you bit the dumpling, the juice or rather the soup burst out that may scorch your tongue. The filling is minced meat mixed with some vegetable, although is simple , but it is very tasty that you dun taste the usual pork smell or taste that we eat in Singapore. Sometimes, I do wonder the main factor for the winning formula could it be the pork that they used ?

The Ship Restaurant

My third visit to restaurant within 2 months, my main purpose was for the accaimed best fish slice bee hoon. The unique plus point is separating the sliced fishes with the soup, thus retain the crispyness of the fish. The milky base soup taste divine . Consider this restaurant if you are near the area, is value for money and worthy .

Bei Shang Chun

Is a terrible restaurant that not worth for try. Dun be deceived by the signboard $13.90 per pax, in fact it is a student price . although the price per adult at $16.90 , considering the variety of the food which definately not worth to pay for . Moreover, there are other hidden costs that not explicitly show at the menu or any sign . The price limited to 2 hrs dining, extra charge incurred for any stay longer, a glass water cost $1 which none of the servers hightlighted when we requested. Food took quite a while to replenish , seem using unscrupulb tactics to make patronisers to pay more.

Wild Rocket

Thanks to Ngee Poly of the course that I took gave me chance to dine at Wild Rocket at a great value price , $25 nett for 3 course meals . Wild Rocket is a well-know restaurant situated at secluded area that you will never wanted to be there, not easily accessible unless you have a car. The founder , Willie is a ex-lawyer turned into chef due to his passion in food .
The ambience is quite, nice ,cosy and relaxing. Our menu ; mushroom soup, sambal fillet and pandan pudding .

Mushroom Soup - give a very robust taste of mushroom, not the usual creamy mushroom.

Sambal Fillet - Couldnt remember the fish that they used for the dishes, the winning formula for this dish definitely must be the condiment mixed local flavour , sambal chilli to it . U will never imagined that sambal chilli could be internationalised too.

Panda Pudding - Light flavour of pandan leaf, but the taste escalated to next level with the mixture of the brown sauce (I think is made from Gula Melaka ) , somewhat peranakan meet west, but tasted magically .

I have heard about how good this Hokkaido ramen was, till, I have the opportunity to taste it today.

Soup base is full of essence from meats, bones ...... is tasty but a bit salty for my taste bud, nonetheless, the menu did indicate that we may find the soup salty and we may request to add soup that suit out taste.

I believed the chef had brew it four severals hours,

The ramen is springy , OMG, the egg is the master piece that the egg yolk remain watery better than the half boiled egg that we have for breakfast.

Crystal Jade Palace @ Paragon

I confuse that I decided to have our lunch was indeed lure by one of porridge at Crystal Jade Palace @ Paragon. Previously, I had this dish, thus it made me remember the seafood freshness and the juicy oyster without the smell (I do not eat oyster at all) . The soup was tasty , light, clear and healthy. However, the standard hasdropped today, the oysters are raw and I could taste the slippery texture of the Oyster that I hated the most.

As for the dim sum that supplement the porridge , in short, passable but not that fantastic, well looking at service aspect, service staff are very attentive, thoughful and speedy. For price, should catergorise as up market restaurant.

MoonCake

Its another once a year affair - mooncakes gathering, this year was an unusual year for us that we had too many mooncakes, eventually, we had to give away boxes of mooncakes. Hananese mooncakes - salty taste allow me to reminisce days with my dad, my long time favourite is snowskin mooncake, I have to confess that I am rather on the texture and filling of snowskill mooncake, Fairmont Hotel snowskin standard remain the same, Raffles hotel gave me surprise, and intercon snowskin gave the surreal texture of japanese sweet potatoes .

I cant wait till next year for my champaign mooncake from Fairmont !!!!

Bali Thai @ Ion

There are many new food outets set up presence at Ion Ochard, one of them is Bali Thai, reason being for me to choose this restaurant because there wasnt any queue compared to others. Frankly, I did not place high expectation, it is a fusion restaurant that provide Thai & Bali cuisine.

To test the skill of a so call Thai restaurant, simply order Tom Yum Soup, it will not go wrong.

It is clear soup base Tom Yum Soup VS milky base that we ususally had in Thailand, nevertheless the soup tast wonderful with plenty of vegetable , generous portion of seafood at friendly price.

Worth a try !

Hong Kong Trolley Noodle

This is an eatery situated inside Marina Square Food Court, intitially I was quite skeptical to enter the eatery despite the poor presentation of the food, still, I gave it a try as I couldn't over come my crave for Hong Kong trolley noodle...

Scoreboard for this attempt: 2
- 2 points was given for the radish that took quite a while to stew it till soft
- soup is oily, with msg seasoning
- overcooked soak cuttle fish
- fishballs were hard
- chicken wings were tasteless

So this has managed to secure a place in my ban lists.

Secret Receipt

Strongly recommend this cake from secret receipt, I fall in love with this banana cake just only first bite. It gives very rich and robust chocolate taste, non processed coco taste with chunk of bananas. Not to worry, it is not so sweet like most of the chocolate , but , it is still sinful to have chocolate with banana cake. Fat ! Fat !
