I was attracted by the colourful displays of cakes at the front entrance, indeed I was capitvated by the wide varieties of cake.
Well, I find the restaurant had tagged the price at relative high price comparative with some reputable 5 star here which I dun feel to worth this much for the quality of food and services extended to guest. Furthermore, the place is too noisy, too cram , literally the guests sitting next to you able to hear your conversation.

Strawberry crepes, thin layer of crepes with nice presentation, the presentation scored points for these, but overall the crepes could be easily found in any cafe.

Berries Tart, bites of berries with combination of sweet & sour.

The Shanghai Restaurant

The façade of the restaurant will never attracts me to dine at these place, simple air-con coffee shop setting with Chinese chef displaying culinary skill at open kitchen at the front of the shop. I could say it is 100% authentic Shanghainese food but modified to local taste reducing the saltiness and oiliness.
??? (cant remember name of this dish)
In short , it is Wrap brinjal with minced meat. It is just superb, although it is a deep fried dish yet not greasy at all.
Shanghai Style Sweet & Sour croaker
Croaker is a kind of fish quite common to be found in Shanghai Cuisine, this is a typical classic Shanghai dish shouldn't miss, giving you a mix taste of sweet and sour.
Winter melon soaked in orange sauce
Truthly a surprise once I placed into my mouth. Chill, sweet, tangy yet melon retained its crunchiness. Light & refreshing starters to start your meal.

Shanghai Mixed Claypot
Duck, bamboo shoot and some other unknown ingredients simmer for hours to give this robust taste.

Black pepper chicken fried rice
I dun fancy fried rice at all, it is not easy to win my heart from fried rice. We could see each grain of rice separately, and not mashy .

Shanghai baked scallion pastry
thin layer of flour which makes it crispy on the outer layers.

Islander Creamy

Freezing Mud Pie Apple Tart wz Very Berry
This Ice-cream parlor was recommended by my dearest colleagues, the restaurant was packed with students when we had our dessert session there. Nonetheless, the over-whelming results could be vindicated by their unique and localized ice-cream flavours. Local flavour: Horlick, The terik, Chendol, Pulua Hitam, Milo Hoh, Tiger beer (yes ! is the beer with alcohol). We had apple tart with veryberry, it tasted fantastic, chunk of apples coated with cinnamon and went well perfectly with veryberry (vanilla with berries) was smooth and creamy . Mudpie was rich with chocolate and generous crush of oreo. Location: Serene centre along Adam Road . Islander Creamy can be easily spotted along the main road.

Painted Skin

Painted Skin adapted from “Strange Stales’ is another production from Raintree Picture. In the movies, there is fox demon, demon slayer, general elegant wife….. I have high expectation on the movie as I font of strange tales story, however this movie focusing too much on love lacking of the mystery plot. Apparently, the director been trying to capture every scene to perfect, flawless, romantic and beautiful, cause unnecessary scenarios and lengthen the duration of the storyline. I dun think you will have the eerie feel for this movie. Well, it is still value for money if just purely for entertainment .

House of Seafood

Signature Black Pepper Crab

There are number of new eateries emerging along Yio Chu Kang Road, one of them is House of Seafood set up by 2 chefs formerly from Joo Chiat famous black pepper crab. Once you stepped into the Zi Char shop, pictures of mediacorp’s artistes with the owner & posters of reviews from various publishing, press and online media pasted around the wall of the outlet. We ordered 3 different dishes of crab, signature black pepper crab, Singapore famous chilli crab and butter crab, costs $38 per kg . In fact, I find most of the media had over-rated their crab, the black pepper crab was not well cooked at the right hot temperature that the meat stick with the shell, the black pepper sauce wasn’t fantastic enough to give us the “wow” factor. Singapore Chilli Crab just passable, I could easily taste it any chi zhar stall in Singapore , not worth to travel such a distance for it. Butter crab didn’t look creamy that butter crab should have, it was too dry that lost the touch of butter. I still prefer AMK Mellben and Seasfood paradise crabs, both have specialty to prepare tasty, juicy, mouth-watering crab..

Taste Of Thailand

I had my lunch at this never heard before , a Thai Restaurant which apparently very well known among residents in the north. Taste of Thailand situated within heartland serving Thai cuisine for the residents around the area patronizing the restaurant, I was rather surprised that that the eatery was full house even it was weekday lunch. We ordered Pineapple rice (serves more 3 persons for medium size), deep fried fish, calamari , black pepper beef, tom yam soup & honey chicken.

Personally, the food is passable for a chi zar standard, the chef had modified it , mixing too much local flavors to the dishes, I would rather name it as fusion food of Thai meet Singapore.

Nevertheless, If you bring down expectation of an authentic Thai food, it is indeed a decent place that gives you a taste of Thai Food .
