Fourty Hands

Recently, more hip & trending shops sprucing up at this pre war housing estate area - Tiong Bahru, thus, injected vibes and vibrant to this once old and boring estate .

There is an artisan cafe well known for the brew, nestled at the area. Opened by Aussie , serves limited breakfast menu . My first time to the cafe surprised me by the overly-crowded yuppies sitting inside the cafe. As usual, I had my Latte , which gave strong aroma of coffee. Egg benedict served on traditional metal plate was a surprise too, the taste met my expectation.

I would highly recommend Salmon Hash and Gula Melaka Swiss Roll. Salmon hash was tasty and flavourful, salmon without fishy smelt and not over cooked. Gula Melaka Swiss Roll is rather unusual that I could only find it here, the sponge is soft, not too sweet , and rolled with shredded coconut.

If you are this area, pop into this cafe .

One Caramel

One Caramel is another new cafe that specialise in dessert and cakes , it hides beside The Cathay (tends to miss it) , with just few tables . All cakes are freshly made by their pastry chef. My sweet tooth experience at One Caramel ;

Lychee Rose Cake
Lychee mouse layer with rose sponge cake, a perfect concoction that gives strong aroma of both flavours.

Strawberry Short Cake
This reminds me the strawberry short cakes that I had ate during my trip in Japan few years back, layers of crush with fresh strawberries and mouse.

Red Valvet Cake
Maybe my taste bud doesnt like it, the sweetness too overpowering that my tooth ache .

Secret Receipt

Strongly recommend this cake from secret receipt, I fall in love with this banana cake just only first bite. It gives very rich and robust chocolate taste, non processed coco taste with chunk of bananas. Not to worry, it is not so sweet like most of the chocolate , but , it is still sinful to have chocolate with banana cake. Fat ! Fat !

TCC

This coffee had won 2nd place in Singapore Barista Championship 2009. I was in fact deceived by the visual on placard, the size of the cup looked bigger on picture than the actual size served to me. The drink is an enhanced version of espresso coffee, first sip gave a touch of caramel and aroma of vanilla, second sip gave the taste of bitterness. Whatever , the award winning coffee still failed to win my heart, the new mixture taste just simply too robust that lost the character of quality coffee.

PS Cafe @ Paragon

There is no doubt tha PS cafe is a place for pastry and coffee... sitting down relaxing with a cup of aromatic coffee. The Lemon tart went perfectly well with coffee.. sweetness and bitterness from coffee smoothen the sourness of the lemon tart. The mixed berries cheese cake was soft , and cheesey .

The Canteen

The canteen reopened at Shaw Centre right beside entrance of Isetan, compare to previous upmarket The canteen that served western cuisine , the new Canteen changed concept skewed toward locals . No nicely presented pasta or colourful pastry. New Canteen served only Singapore food or modified local hawer food like chilli crabs toast, Laksa Udon etc. In fact, it just another high end food court for a better enviroment that you could sit down to be served by servers comfortably. For the food wise, I ordered the tea set E came with Banana & peanut toast and local coffee. My toast indeed was spread with peanut and Banana .... there the taste. We tempted by the picture of Lychee Jelly and recalled review on 8 Days, rather disappointed with the dessert that served entirely different with the image shown on the menu and 8 days. I had been deceived by the picture, smaller portion, looked bland compare to green ice shave image. Taste wise, it was merely can lychee mixed with cocount milk , that's simple that anyone can prepare this dessert.

Cafe Briz

Wow ! TV programme is so powerful that literally abetting me to be one of the calories' victims influenced by Channel 8 Buffet Buffet. We chose Trader Hotel Cafe Briz to damage our wallets, serving international buffet and skewer of BBQ served to your table. At $45 ++ , their buffet spread includes fresh seafood (Salmon Sashimi, baby lobster, shrimp etc), indian curry, pasta from italy, spreads of chinese dishes and of course desserts. Other than all the self service food, chefs went around tables serving BBQ Beef, sausages, wings , roaste pinapple every 30 mins .

My comments for the meals, passable as the dessert won my heart eventhough there were limited variety of hot dishes. Need to add on I am an ardent dessert lover !

I was attracted by the colourful displays of cakes at the front entrance, indeed I was capitvated by the wide varieties of cake.
Well, I find the restaurant had tagged the price at relative high price comparative with some reputable 5 star here which I dun feel to worth this much for the quality of food and services extended to guest. Furthermore, the place is too noisy, too cram , literally the guests sitting next to you able to hear your conversation.

Strawberry crepes, thin layer of crepes with nice presentation, the presentation scored points for these, but overall the crepes could be easily found in any cafe.

Berries Tart, bites of berries with combination of sweet & sour.

We had our dessert at this best know cafe of the unqiue local favours of gelato. Frankly , I could remember the name of the cafe, nevertheless I know the exact location. It situated inside the building facing the main road beside Coronation Plaza, it is very easy to identify through the big word " GELATO" . From neteziens, I understand that their gelatos are all home made, that assure freshness of the cold dessert. Gosh ! Fresh for Ice - cream. You will be spoilt by choices of local and unique flavours , you can find tangy strawberry (which gives u tiny bite of strawberries), local coffee , teh terik , durian ..... and many others weird names .

Cafe Pralet

I had introduced Cafe Pralet previously. I ordered their signature cheese cake for Connie birthday. The cake is creamy, robust, moist, soft and melt in you mouth.

For non cheese lover, no worries , you have wide varities of choices.

TCC launched new drinks on menu, The Perfect Match and Lychee Jazz. The Perfect Match in fact is Latte with hitch of Rose syrup, not too great to shout about. As for Lychee Jazz is a fizzy lychee drink, can lychee will certainly taste better for our palate .

I had striked off Xing Wang Hong Kong Café since years ago. Reason being, their food are not fantastic at all, although they are so call a Hong Kong Tea café that serve HK cuisine . They couldn’t even met 40% of local HK normal café standard, tea isn’t fragrance, baked rice taste bland and the method of preparing is different . However, tonight the café surprised me by Mochi with Peanut. Its were mochi (Glutinous Rice ball) coated with grinded peanuts. The Mochi were very soft , and went perfectly with grinded peanuts
