In Shanghai, there is a street famous for little lobster, we were very fortunate that our friend who stayed in Shanghai for more than 6 months bought us here. The entire street sell baby lobsters , despite so many shops selling baby lobsters, Ivan strongly recommended Hao Ji , reasons being , it had been featured by local TV , celebrities had patronized the stall, the best among all in term of cleanliness.
Lets talk about the food, we had baby lobsters, scallops, BBQ oysters, shrimps ( HK name it as urinated prawn) etc. Ivan told us that the season for baby lobster is summer, the baby lobster not so meaty during winter, still, the baby lobster taste sweet (maybe it’s the original taste ).

Baby Lobster

Salty Urinated Prawn
need to know the skill to peel the shell . The texture of the prawn taste similar as crab.

a kind of clam which I really dun know the exact name, find it a bit slurpy and oily.

Xiao Yang fried dumpling is one of the shanghai local delicacies that I missed the most, which is also rather well-know in Shanghai community, that several food and travel programmes featured Xiao Yang. Please be prepared to queue .

The skin of the dumpling is deep fried till it turned golden brown, ,thus, made it crispy, be cautious if you bit the dumpling, the juice or rather the soup burst out that may scorch your tongue. The filling is minced meat mixed with some vegetable, although is simple , but it is very tasty that you dun taste the usual pork smell or taste that we eat in Singapore. Sometimes, I do wonder the main factor for the winning formula could it be the pork that they used ?

The Ship Restaurant

My third visit to restaurant within 2 months, my main purpose was for the accaimed best fish slice bee hoon. The unique plus point is separating the sliced fishes with the soup, thus retain the crispyness of the fish. The milky base soup taste divine . Consider this restaurant if you are near the area, is value for money and worthy .

Bei Shang Chun

Is a terrible restaurant that not worth for try. Dun be deceived by the signboard $13.90 per pax, in fact it is a student price . although the price per adult at $16.90 , considering the variety of the food which definately not worth to pay for . Moreover, there are other hidden costs that not explicitly show at the menu or any sign . The price limited to 2 hrs dining, extra charge incurred for any stay longer, a glass water cost $1 which none of the servers hightlighted when we requested. Food took quite a while to replenish , seem using unscrupulb tactics to make patronisers to pay more.

Wild Rocket

Thanks to Ngee Poly of the course that I took gave me chance to dine at Wild Rocket at a great value price , $25 nett for 3 course meals . Wild Rocket is a well-know restaurant situated at secluded area that you will never wanted to be there, not easily accessible unless you have a car. The founder , Willie is a ex-lawyer turned into chef due to his passion in food .
The ambience is quite, nice ,cosy and relaxing. Our menu ; mushroom soup, sambal fillet and pandan pudding .

Mushroom Soup - give a very robust taste of mushroom, not the usual creamy mushroom.

Sambal Fillet - Couldnt remember the fish that they used for the dishes, the winning formula for this dish definitely must be the condiment mixed local flavour , sambal chilli to it . U will never imagined that sambal chilli could be internationalised too.

Panda Pudding - Light flavour of pandan leaf, but the taste escalated to next level with the mixture of the brown sauce (I think is made from Gula Melaka ) , somewhat peranakan meet west, but tasted magically .
