The Canteen

The canteen reopened at Shaw Centre right beside entrance of Isetan, compare to previous upmarket The canteen that served western cuisine , the new Canteen changed concept skewed toward locals . No nicely presented pasta or colourful pastry. New Canteen served only Singapore food or modified local hawer food like chilli crabs toast, Laksa Udon etc. In fact, it just another high end food court for a better enviroment that you could sit down to be served by servers comfortably. For the food wise, I ordered the tea set E came with Banana & peanut toast and local coffee. My toast indeed was spread with peanut and Banana .... there the taste. We tempted by the picture of Lychee Jelly and recalled review on 8 Days, rather disappointed with the dessert that served entirely different with the image shown on the menu and 8 days. I had been deceived by the picture, smaller portion, looked bland compare to green ice shave image. Taste wise, it was merely can lychee mixed with cocount milk , that's simple that anyone can prepare this dessert.

My all time favourite; Simmer milk with Walnut paste
It is a divine combination ; smooth , creamy, thick and yummy .

Luo Man Zhi
Glutinous rice with durian paste coated with coconut shreds. A right place in Singapore for this HK snack. Still. Cant complete with HK.

2am Desser Bar

Cant remember ! Dessert presented like an art ! Sorry ! Couldn’t remember the taste

Just to have some recall session, if you had watched Channel 8 Star Chef you will know the person behind 2am Dessert. The bar was set up by the champion of Star Chef 01, the demeanor chef Janice . It is a chill out place for “atas” ones is the impression I had once I stepped into the bar. A row of white couches, contemporary black design finishing & dim light that I could barely read the menu to build intimacy ambience . All these don come cheap, be prepare to pay minimum $14 +++ a small portion yet artistically presented dessert.

Cheese Cake
Cheesy for cheese lover that gives a smooth and robust texture. In short; softer version of cheese mousse

Cafe Briz

Wow ! TV programme is so powerful that literally abetting me to be one of the calories' victims influenced by Channel 8 Buffet Buffet. We chose Trader Hotel Cafe Briz to damage our wallets, serving international buffet and skewer of BBQ served to your table. At $45 ++ , their buffet spread includes fresh seafood (Salmon Sashimi, baby lobster, shrimp etc), indian curry, pasta from italy, spreads of chinese dishes and of course desserts. Other than all the self service food, chefs went around tables serving BBQ Beef, sausages, wings , roaste pinapple every 30 mins .

My comments for the meals, passable as the dessert won my heart eventhough there were limited variety of hot dishes. Need to add on I am an ardent dessert lover !

Carnivore

Carnivore reflected the restaurant target audiences must be meat lovers. We had our lunch at Vivo City Carnivore, once you stepped into the outlets, you will see the buffet spread of appetizers , salads & greens. These are to go with the meat to be served by the servers, in order to satisfy all meat lovers, they serves skewers of grilled meats; beef, lamb, honey baked ham, pork, bacon wrapped chicken.

My favour 1st choice goes to grilled chicken thigh which was well marinated, juicy and tender , 2nd is beef hump which was succulent, 3rd favour is honey baked ham with grilled pineapple, the sourness of pineapple married perfectly with the filling honey baked ham.

The service was attentive, efficient and quick to clear our plate, and servers who severed the meat were very friendly and entertaining.

Cod Fish Village

Cod Fish Village serves more than 30 different cod fish dishes , you could find curry cod fish, assam cod fish and many many more. The eatery is situated at a secluded block in Toa Payoh, it is a coffee shop style which need not worry much on the price.

Since they are well – know of preparing Cod Fish, we tried deep fried Cod fish stick, Cod Fish with olive, milk fragrance spare ribs and others.

Fried Cod fish sticks tasted similar as seafood toufu , crispy on the skin and flavour of seafood inside. However, I find texture and taste of other seafood had overwhelmed the flavour of cod fish.

Cod Fish with Olive , Cod fish is not east to cook it tasty and yet retaining the unique taste and smooth texture. The chef had handle the heat well that the fish meat was well cooked , perfect that you wont feel the greasiness that you find from the cod fish.

Milk Fragrance Spare Ribs, since they specialize on Cod Fish, do not pin high hop for non-cod fish dishes. On this per say, we unanimously felt that they had used too much milk and too sweet.
